MM Good Book Reviews - Thommie's Books

I'm a crazy chick who somehow ended up a volunteer reviewer for Miss Portia de Moncur. I read m/m books and review them as honestly and passionately as I can.

Deadly Game - Cara Lockwood 2.5~3 Hearts

Review written for Naughty Tales Reviews

You wake up one morning only to discover your boyfriend in bed with your roommate, covered in blood, and said roommate dead… What do you do? Panic? Call the police? Run away?

Yeah, Cal ran and took Daniel with her. And that’s how the chase begun. More or less anyway.

So, first thing’s first. The blurb gives up much more details than the damn plot and that is frustrating. I mean in the blurb it’s clear that Cal suspects her bf of killing her roomie Gia, but in the story there are only very subtle hints that point that. Fact is, neither of them remembers what happened the night before. What didn’t make sense to me was why they ran? Why didn’t they contact their parent asap? Why didn’t they contact a lawyer? Yes in the long run we understand Cal was trying for a “we weren’t there/we know nothing” idea, but again why?

Moving on the plot was a bit weird, every character had a damn thing to hide, even the police officers, and that my dear fellow readers made it real. It is common knowledge that (especially in small islands like Naxo) people have too many skeletons in their closet and the island is one ginormous bed, everyone falling in it at one point or another.

I loved the descriptions of the characters; the Greeks were portrayed fabulously from the nosy dispatcher to the partner’s affair. I had a knowing smile the entire time I was reading it, and from the police perspective (yup I’ve had the ins with police guys for years around here, be it island officers or big shots in Athens) I can vouch for the author having done her homework alright. Damn it I went back a trip in memory lane with this read. Oh and let’s not forget her very nicely done description of the island itself. Made me wonder if the author was Greek or been there quite a few times.

However I must say it was a bit frustrating the fact that everything was in the air and this first book is like a tease or something. The ending was growl-invoking and made my head explode a bit with the new turn every single step. It certainly made me want to go and grab book #2 though, so I suppose mission accomplished.

So if you like a fast paced crime/erotic story here you go, it was quite decent and with a couple of hot scenes in it too.
